MODIS MOD12Q1 Notes Specific to 2001001v1, the Provisional Delivery Released 15 June 2001

  The second MOD12Q1 run (provisional product, nominal data day 2001001v1) may be used with caution as a science product though it is not a validated science product. It is based on less than one year of data (July 2000 to January 2001) while the product algorithm presumes a complete global annual cycle as input for the classification. Furthermore, input data prior to 31 October 2000 had not yet been corrected for aerosols. Despite these drawbacks, the performance of the Land Cover classification algorithm continues to improve and is quite encouraging.

   For nominal data day 2001001, Permanent Wetlands, Class 11 in SDS Land_Cover_Type_1, (IGBP), was included as a possible output class.

   For nominal data day 2001001, Urban and Built-Up, Class 13 in SDS Land_Cover_Type_1, (IGBP), was not included as a possible output class. A rasterized version of the Digital Chart of the World from the EDC GLCC team as used in the MOD12Q1 At-Launch product, nominal data day 1990001, was overlaid as a mask on the classifier output.
