AMBRALS (the Algorithm for Modeling[MODIS]
Bidirectional Reflectance Anisotropies of
the Land Surface; Wanner et al., 1997) allows a
variety of kernel-driven semiempirical BRDF models (Roujean et
al., 1992) to be explored. Both the RossThick and LiSparse-R
kernels are among the large number of kernels available and
therefore the RossThick/LiSparse-R BRDF model used in the MODIS
product can be specified and used. However, in this form, only
full inversions will be computed (no magnitude versions) and the
contraints, error checking and quality information associated
with the operational MOD43B MODIS BRDF/Albedo Product code are not
available. However, the AMBRALS framework is quite simple to use
and is ideal for a research environment. If you are interested
in obtaining a copy of the code for your research use, please
